After several trips to Japan in the last years, the ASHIMOTO project was being shaped, and he finely started to develop it in mid 2007, in Tokyo. The current exhibition is formed by 23 works, with an intentional mixture of black and white and colour images, just as a reflection of this multicoloured and complex surroundings.

In this work César Ordóñez talks about women and his fascination to them. Their feet and, in some cases, their legs are an original way in which we, guided by the author, can get into this subtle terrain, unexplored and at the same time capable to clearly express the sensibility, sensuality and fragility of the female universe.

Tokyo was the ideal setting to develop the project, because it is to him, an scenery of great intimacy, in which the Japanese women perfectly express the emotions he wanted to transmit. An environment full of layers overlapping and interacting between themselves. With small details only noticeable in a slower rhythm and with multiple interpretation, just as the works in this show.

This island-country called Japan, and especially Tokyo, is a world of huge contrasts that coexists in harmony. An unexpected mixture of sensations that can bewilders a foreigner. A cosmos of lights and darkness, of insinuations and also mistakes. ASHIMOTO as a title plays with this concepts, being a precise reflection of this ambiguous reality.

In Japanese the word ASHIMOTO is not always something concrete. It can be translated as “step” or “at their feet”, but what decided it as the title of the project was it’s translation as “uncertain area around the feet”. By this way it can have multiple interpretations, as the feet, or including the heel and part of the leg... or simply a part of the feet that can be intuited through the pleat of a yukata.
