ASHIMOTO

Ese país-isla llamado Japón y en especial Tokio, es un mundo de grandes contrastes que conviven en total armonía. Una mezcla inopinada de sensaciones que en algunos casos pueden llegar a aturdir al extraño. Un cosmos lleno de luces y de penumbras, de insinuaciones y también de equívocos. ASHIMOTO, el título de esta exposición, juega con esos conceptos siendo un reflejo certero de esa realidad ambigua.

En el idioma japonés, el término ASHIMOTO no siempre es algo concreto. Se puede traducir como “paso” ó “a sus pies”, pero lo que decidió que fuera el título del proyecto, es su traducción como: “zona indeterminada alrededor de los pies”. De este modo, según quién o cómo se emplee, puede tener múltiples interpretaciones. Refiriéndose sólo al pie, al pie incluyendo el talón y una parte de la pierna, … o sólo a un trozo del pie que se intuya a través del pliegue de un yukata.

This island-country called Japan, and especially Tokyo, is a world of huge contrasts that coexists in harmony. An unexpected mixture of sensations that can bewilders a foreigner. A cosmos of lights and darkness, of insinuations and also mistakes. ASHIMOTO as a title plays with this concepts, being a precise reflection of this ambiguous reality.

In Japanese the word ASHIMOTO is not always something concrete. It can be translated as “step” or “at their feet”, but what decided it as the title of the project was it’s translation as “uncertain area around the feet”. By this way it can have multiple interpretations, as the feet, or including the heel and part of the leg... or simply a part of the feet that can be intuited through the pleat of a yukata.
